Well washed-up to all the girls who took part: Emma Smith, Emily Dewan, Lucy O Connell and Nicole Jia. The cakes were so creative and it was a tough competition! Operation Read 2018 27/02/2018Pursuiton from the success of 'Operation Read!' last year with Transition Year, this year's Second Years will uncork their reading journeys on Monday, February 26th! This is a student-led reading momentum that will see 2nd Years divided into 4 reading groups, based on their reading habits. The groups are: TheTypesettingWorms, The Sporadical Readers, TheTypesettingSquirms and Don't Read, Won't Read. Each group will "Follow the Reader" and aim to meet their weekly reading targets! Book-themed events such as 'The Great Bookish Bake Off' and a fancy dressTypesettingBall will take place during the 3 week run. What largest time to engage in Reading for Pleasure other than during Literacy Week?!Follow the Second Year's success here on the website! And now, "Ready, steady, READ!" What is Literacy? Can you Spell? This year, the school will be standing with our spelling campaign. In wing to our list of 20 words from last year, we have selected 25 new wontedly misspelt words and focussed on five of them each week. Having tested a number of the students at the outset of the campaign, we will be re-examining them regularly to assess its effectiveness. Initiatives Our School will introduce the pursuit initiatives: Introduce a qualitative and quantative reading programme wideness the school to ensure that all our students develop a habit of reading, Each teacher will use a literacy checklist to ensure that literacy is embedded in every class, Each Subject Department will teach the key vocabulary/terms to each student, Ensure that each student is offered a regular reading class, Multi language debating opportunities will be offered at all levels Info for Parents Here are some useful tips and resources for parents to encourage your children to develop a habit of reading for pleasure and to learn how to use information effectively. Encourage your child to wilt an zippy user of her school library, Encourage your child to join our typesetting clubs, Ensure that there is a place at home to read and a time to do it, Encourage your child to participate fully in our Information Literacy programme, Persuade your child to enter into our writing competitions , Encourage your child to participate in debating events, Introduce your daughter to our reading lists and to the reading lists of our Montessori Junior school.
